Well here's the bottom line, and the question I really wanted to get at in discussing this particular piece of news: does 3-D matter to a movie like this?
The simple answer, for me, is no. IMAX matters, and there will be IMAX prints. It is the ultimate film viewing experience, with its 70mm frame and its booming sound and its all-encompassing screen.
But with very few exceptions -- among them Up, Coraline, and Avatar -- 3-D hasn't enhanced the film-going experience. It has changed the movie business, but it has not changed the movie experience.
It is not the devil and it is not the savior. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But will it make Harry any Pottier?

No.
It would matter if they WERE screening it in 3D.
Kinda of a disappointment if you're going to see it in 3-D. I wouldn't mind either way, just as long as I'm in A theater watching the movie.
